Database Rebuild and Repair Procedures Using ACTDIAG

ACT! Diagnostics Utility Database Repair Procedures:

Note: Images in your version of ACT! may differ slightly from the ones used in this Answer.

Repair Database:

  1. Ensure that the ACT! program is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches:

  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, and then click Repair Database. The following Repair Database dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes to proceed with the repair process. The following Repair Database dialog box appears:



  8. Click OK, re-open your database, and test.


Reindex Database:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006), or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.



  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, and then click Reindex Database, the following Reindex Database dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes to proceed with the procedure. The following Reindex Database message appears:



  8. Click OK to complete the reindex process, and then test launching ACT! with your database.


Rebuild Schema:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click< Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006), or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches:



  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, point to Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild Schema. The following Rebuild Schema dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes to proceed with the schema rebuild. The following Rebuild Schema message appears:



  8. Click OK to complete the rebuild process, and then test launching ACT! with your database.



Rebuild Security:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006), or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.



  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, point to Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild Security. The following Rebuild Database Security dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes. The following Rebuild Database Security message box appears.



  8. Click OK to return to the ACT! Diagnostics utility.



Rebuild OLE/DB Report Objects:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006), or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.



  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, point to Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild OLE/DB Report Objects. The following Rebuild OLE/DB Reporting Objects dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes to continue with the rebuild process. The following Rebuild OLE/DB Reporting Objects message appears:



  8. Click OK to complete the process.



Rebuild Sync Objects:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2009, 2008 and 2007), act8diag (ACT! 2006), or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.



  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears:



  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of theDATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Click the Actions menu, point to Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild Sync Objects. The following Rebuild Sync Objects dialog box appears:



  7. Click Yes to continue. The following Rebuild Sync Objects dialog box appears:



  8. Click OK to complete the process. Launch ACT! and test.
